Western Massachusetts is the birthplace of Basketball, Volleyball and of Dr. Seuss. The summer home of the Boston Symphony Orchestra is here at Tanglewood in Lenox and Yankee Candle the leading designer of scented candles in the US is located in South Deerfield. 


The William Cullen Bryant Homestead is located in Cummington and The Mount in Lenox, former home of author Edith Wharton. Just outside of Stockbridge you will come upon the Chesterwood Estate and Museum the 1920's summer home and garden of sculptor Daniel Chester French (1850-1931) most famous for the seated marble figure of Abraham Lincoln (1920) gracing Washington D.C.'s Lincoln Memorial and for his bronze statue of The Minute Man, erected on Concord Green in 1875. Pittsfield, MA is home of Arrowhead-Home of Herman Melville. (www.mobydick.org) The  Norman Rockwell Museum is in Stockbridge (www.nrm.org) and it houses the most significant public collection of Norman Rockwell's work in the world.
